How to grow and eat a Papaya at Hotel Tropical CasaBlanca
So we have been taking lots of pictures and with apologizes not sharing these. Today is the day that we will be sharing some of our fun and group projects that we like to do together.
When we first obtained the hotel in 2007, we discovered that most of us love plants, fruits and growing both. When Nicola lived in Tulum during those days, she would bring fruit from Tulum as it just seemed better, and to be honest easier to purchase as it was around the corner from her house.
One day the staff shared the most delicious papaya that really, all of us thought was the best papaya we had ever had….the next thing we know Catalino was planting and sowing the seeds from this fruit. Papaya has black seeds and they are not small, for a fruit seed. This was done in 2007 about March of that year. Little did we know that this seed would soon be our focus, our attention and would eventually produce fruit, the best and most delicious papaya fruit that we had ever tasted!!!
During the threat of a hurricane in 2007, we had a meeting, what were we going to do with our new growing papaya tree. When there is not a lot of rain, Catalino is great at getting water to our papaya baby. We saw the tree grow and grow but did not see any fruit forming. Finally one day, a little white papaya flower, had turned into a little green ball, the beginnings of a papaya…
In 2007 we did get some fruit and it was delicious! This year we again got some fruit and at breakfast the other day Catalino cut up our papaya and we all enjoyed one of the most delicious pieces of papaya we had ever had. This is one the reasons we love the hotel, papayas, bananas, turtles, fish, saturday night bbqs, a lot of laughter and great guests.
Gracias Dios, namaste….
