The Sky is Falling…..
Remember when Chicken Little said “the sky is falling, the sky is falling” and really the sky was not falling but he got all the animals worried or in some cases panicked.
The current global situation is distressing, that we know, or at least we think it is, today. Tomorrow is another day, and it may get better or it may get worse. Bottom line is, we don’t know, a place that none of us like to be in. Our desire to know and our need to have a bit of predictability is out the window. If I had a crystal ball I would let you know what to do, how to do it, and exactly when this will be over.
But we just don’t know what is going to happen and I don’t have a crystal ball.
The global crisis is effecting us in Mexico, and will effect us even more in the next 6 months. We are a bit delayed, as always, which can give us a sense of false security. Bottom line, no one knows really what is going to happen. Good news for visitors is that the peso has devalued so you get more bang for your buck!
So how do we plan for an ‘I don’t know’? Take care of yourself and make sure you take measures to lower your stress, heighten your ability to look at the world differently and take care of your mental and physical health. This is not an ‘aha’ oprah moment, this is a ‘uhhh?’ moment. No one yet has written a book on a ‘uhhh?’ moment now have they.
‘Uhh?’ moments need to be treated like a normal day. Do not let yourself be paralyzed by them and do not let yourself completely revamp you life based on this moment in time. Reality says, or should I say, the media says, the sky is falling, but really, we don’t know.
So in a ‘uhh’ moment do what you normally do each and every year, just do it differently. This is not a time to say, okay no more gym memberships, no more entertainment, no more dinners out, no more fun to boost our spirits. Think of ways to include mental and physical essentials to take care of yourself and do it differently. Yes, be creative and look for areas whereby you can win while the sky is falling, not feel like you are losing.
Maintaining a positive attitude is hard when everyone is talking about doomsday. To counteract the energy of others and commit to activities that shield you from the dangers of slipping into a full out depression, take care of your physical and mental health so that you are ready to charge forth into the jungle each and every day. It is a jungle out there, right?
For your physical health, you don’t need a gym to work out, you just need gravity and some movement. Run, walk, swim, do push ups. All of these activities are for free if you just walk outside your door. Fresh air could do some good, a good dose of heavy breathing could clear your head. Try it, you may like it. And there is no cost to using local streets or parks for your exercise needs.
For your mental health, take a vacation. The three week Europe trip is out, the 5 star hotels with private butlers are out. Did you ever think to take a 4 day vacation just to change your space, get some vitamin D and drink a beer or two or three. Airlines are feeling the crunch like everyone else. But they are being creative in how they do business. This means, lower fares and better deals. Last week I witnessed an airfare, Toronto to Cancun for 18 cdn plus tax. All in the airfare was only 274 cdn, round trip, direct. SWeeeeTTTT!!!! Check it out at www.belairtravel.ca Just to sweeten the deal, we are offering at our Hotel, Tropical CasaBlanca, a 7 night stay for 299 usd per person based on double occupancy. This special runs from Jan 6 to 31, 2009. SWWeeeeTTT (squared). info@tropicalcasablanca.com
Life does not have to stop during turbulent times. It is in the power of your creativity to find solutions to old systems. Exercising and vacationing, just to name two areas which do not have to be put out on the curb, in different ways can fuel your creativity so that you can find creative solutions to other issues that come your way, so that the ‘uhh?’ moment actually turns into a ‘ahhha’ moment.
